On a personal note

I really hate that, even if I am having an enviably good evening myself, knowing that others are out and about partying it up like rock stars and I can’t join because of work/sick/money etc makes my night seem worse. This social jealousy is terrible, and made worse by things like Facebook. Does anyone else have this? Sitting at home having a lovely evening by yourself, find out some people are out downtown getting crazy, remember you have work early in the morning, suddenly lovely evening just feels kind of pathetic.

It’s not, of course. It’s grown up and responsible and fun. Nothing about your lovely evening has changed. And yet, because you are missing out on some kind of social bonding you feel like the whole thing is kind of a waste.

I hate this feeling. It’s tough to shake. Have any of you encountered this? And how do you deal? Besides the obvious: turn off the computer and resume your evening.
