feminist thumbs up!

two things:
1. the guitarist slated to play the killer solos in both black or white and beat it with michael jackson during his britain shows is an australian chick named oriathli who freaking shreds a guitar like a master. it’s awesome to see a female musician was hired for such a highly anticipated concert. i hope that after it’s cancellation she got an equally high profile gig, and at least her crazy skills are on film.

2. kick ass. while the girlfriend character made me really angry (in the comic she reacts to the main characters betrayal a lot more realistically. as in at all), the character of hit girl made me really happy. the violence in the film, perpetrated mainly by this 11 year old girl, was stylized and mostly deserved by the people whose faces got broken in. the hero and main bad ass in the movie is hit girl, but what i liked the most is that it is never an issue. because it doesn’t matter what gender she is, she’s totally kick ass.

3. i finished manifesta. on to the next! any suggestions for books that made you realize you were a feminist? books that you think every feminist should read? post ’em!

I was recently recommended Feminism is For Everybody, The Masculine Self and The Gender Knot but haven’t gotten to read any of them yet. I’ll pass these suggestions on, and would love to hear if you happen to have read any of them.
